" New shows will be available in those locations on the first Tuesday of each month, along with previously-released-on-CD items. "

So does this mean that they will be taking away at least 2 prime shows a month? first Tuesday of the month a great show comes off the Archive (No longer available due to its comersial release huh) and goes to the Pay side That Sucks

I think that the shows from late october 71, 10-26, 27, 29. I am not sure that these are the exact dates, but it seems that these shows are missing. I have been downloading all of 71, as well as some other years. I would just like to say, that this site is great, amazing, a deadhead tapers dream come true. I wish I would have found it sooner rather than late last year. However, I would really appreciate it if removed shows could be listed on this forum, it seems to me that this would be a perfect use of this forum. Not that we are complaining about the shows being now sold, that is the right of the band (althoug they did sort of tell us something like: "when we are done playing we are done with it" Anyways, because this seems like a ongoing project that might pick up steam, I would LOVE it if the band could give this forum a HEADSUP few day notice and let us have one last chance at it. Personally, I probably will not buy them. After spending literaly tens of thousands of dollars on the band, concerts, records, tapes, cds, 8 tracks -haha ! I have enough versions that it does not warrent more money, but I am way into this digital format and feel that this is a huge gift (not an entitlement) from the band, to whom I say: thank you for a real good time!

Thanks that is helpful, but not as helpful as I would love to see. There are a bunch of shows that were taken down that are not listed, and it would be so amazing if we could have a brief window prior to the removal. I was exactly in October 71 ( I am downloading the entire year) when the Oct shows vanished, I understand that they will eventually show up elsewhere but when a person is being as compulsive as I am this notice is a good start but not complete enought. A good example would be 8/28/72 (or whenever that show in org. was held... thanks

As far as I know, this is not correct. All the shows that have been taken down have been listed in the policy section. Here, let me change the format so it is easier to read. Done. If the date isn't on that list, and it is not currently an offical release by the band (ala DP), then it can be a part of the collection. If there is something that has been pulled and it is not included on the policy page, then there was another reason and (as far as I know), a replacement can be sent in.

A good example would be 8/28/72

You mean 8/27/72, and that *is* a part of the list.

For anybody who is old enough to remember when any soundboard from the late 60's or early 70's was a prized possesion, even an off-speed, distorted, 7th gen copy, the Archive is like being in heaven. And when the Dead want to pull shows from here and release the prime vault copies, all I can say is "where do I sign up?!" The two download releases that just came out are prime transriptions off the master tapes with HDCD encoding (yes that does make them sound better). And I will give them a deposit for the 10 CD set from the Fillmore, mixed off the multitracks, just to make sure I get a copy! What's in the vault belongs to the band, and a lot of people sweated blood and gave their lives over the years making that magic music. Rant over, thanks to the brothers and sisters at the Archive. Peace.

Sorry, my mistake, the new format is much better and is really great, thanks for doing this and I hope that the list can be kept current. Was 7-16-66 a show that existed and was pulled ? Anyways, just want say thanks again for all the hard work here.

Not present then pulled AFAIK- I think that date could still be on the project to-do list?

So does this mean that...?

Here's the extent of the official word on Archive's end for now:
http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=30199

Please note, "extent of the official word" means that at this point, asking yet more GD-at-IA questions here on this forum won't get you any answer than what we keep pointing to. So asking more isn't really helpful or productive.

We're not really *asking* anything; we're just grumbling and celebrating, depending.

Of course more official GD digital releases will mean fewer shows (at least soundboard-quality) on the Archive.
If you see a show you like the looks of, folks, best to download it now ... and be quietly happy that you stumbled on this site when it was still packed with prime stuff.

If it ain't evident yet, there are some among us who are not going to happily "chill" and sit silently as shows disappear.
Some of us will be more sanguine than others ... some will complain, some will simply comment ... but it ain't gonna pass without remark.

The tone of the Archivists' posts seems to suggest we should all just be quiet, because talking about it won't do any good.
Nope.

Yeah I agree with you.

It is difficult to sit here and think that the shows we made possible by being a part of the scene and I always felt like thats who we all were, are now being repackaged and sold back to us, just at the time when we have an easy means to trade them.

Music was created for that special moment in time and then left there for us to review and remember, or maybe catch what we missed, but the band rolled on creating more and more, until the last days....

And now there is a group of people (the GDP corporation) who were left hanging without the creators of the music and instead of making something creative for themselves they continue to simply figure out new ways to brand and market the old stuff that as I understood it was all of ours anyways. ("when were done with it they can have it") Apparently they werent done with.

I can live with the best of both worlds: they market and make shiny cd's and we have an open trading place for the music.

I have NO desire to buy anything from GDP at all anymore. I saw the archivist talk about upcommming realeases the other day, and I really felt like he didnt give much of a damn about the music and more about the slick marketing. Maybe I am wrong. I hope so.
